Pickup Single Blaze 7/Middle Black

Blaze™ Middle DP701BK.

Seven-strängading guitars are hard to amplify. Most players tune the seventh string to a low “B or even “A and it s a real trick to get a big solid tone from the other strings without the seventh turning to mud. The Blaze™ Middle single-coil is exceptionally tight and is designed to be a match for the Blaze™ humbuckers in split mode. Both lows and highs are bright and clean.

Recommended For All positions. Also available with reverse polarity to achieve hum canceling when used in pairs.

Tech Talk
14K ohms may seem like a lot of resistance for a single-coil but the Blaze™ is not at all muddy — it s bright and even-sounding through the entire 7-strängading frequency range.

DP181W. Fast Track 1™.
The Fast Track 1™ is hotter and more muscular than The Cruiser but it’s still very bright and clean sounding — not at all like a full-size humbucker. The dual-blade continuous magnetic field creates an even string balance with very little magnet-pull eliminating the “out-of-tuneness common to rod-magnet designs. The Fast Track 1™ pickup’s power double the output of a standard single-coil makes it highly recommended in combination with medium - to - hot full-size humbuckers. You can also put a whole set of Fast Track 1™ pickups in a Strat style guitar or create custom sets with any of our other dual-blade models.

Recommended For All positions.

Tech Talk
The Fast Track 1 has more headroom than a vintage single-coil and performs well with both clean and overdriven amps. For any situation where single-coil sound with higher power and hum-cancellation is required. Can be used in any position in a standard Strat setup. Although it isn t as loud as high-output pickups it combines very well with all of our full-size humbuckers because it has the dynamic range to keep up especially with overdrive.

Pickup Strat Virtual Vintage Blues White

Virtual Vintage Blues DP402W.

What do you need in order to play blues with a Strat? The Virtual Vintage Blues has more power and warmth than a typical single-coil. You can really hear these qualities when you’re playing the Virtual Vintage Blues. It withstands hard picking and opens up when you’re playing with an overdriven amp. Instead of shrinking away the sound jumps out of the speakers. These qualities are really useful for getting a fat neck position sound but they’re outstanding for the bridge position — particularly if you have a thin-sounding guitar or use light gauge strings. It’s a tough sounding bridge pickup with warmer guitars and makes a good neck and middle choice to match with a full-size bridge humbucker. As the rest of the Virtual Vintage family it’s dead quiet there’s practically no hum at all.

Recommended For Bridge but can be used in all positions.

Tech Talk
The Virtual Vintage Blues Model is a more muscular pickup than typical vintage single-coils. Unlike thinner-sounding pickups it stands up to hard picking — the sound seems to expand through an overdriven amp instead of shrinking away. This quality is really useful for the neck position if you have a thin-sounding guitar and want to fatten the tone. With warmer-sounding guitars it s a strong tough-sounding bridge pickup. We recommend using 500K controls for extended frequency response although there s no problem using 250K controls if you like the warmer tone they provide.

DP182BK. Fast Track 2™ Bridge pickup

It’s not any bigger than a single-coil pickup but the sound of the Fast Track 2™ puts it right in the wide open “everything-on-11 school. It’s got three times the output of an average single-coil with a huge mid-range and bass punch and a strong resemblance to the Super 3™. This is our hottest single-coil sized bridge pickup — particularly useful when you need a tightly focused jolt of power to crank your amplifier into rich overdrive. Combining it with a Pro Track™ Air Norton S™ BC-1™ orThe Chopper™ in the neck position and The Cruiser or Fast Track 1™in the middle makes a guitar with an outstanding heavy sound.

Recommended For Bridge position.

Tech Talk
To get some sense of the Fast Track 2™ it s best to think of it as a Strat-sized version of the Super 3™ the pickup it most closely resembles. Using a 500K volume control will open up the top end and we recommend this value. The best neck pickup choices with the Fast Track 2™ would be relatively hot models like the The Chopper™ Pro Track™. Air Norton S™ and BC-1™. We recommend brighter models like the Cruiser™ or Fast Track 1™ in the middle. You can also mix it with Stratier pickups like the Area and Virtual Vintage lines if you re prepared for the jump in power of the bridge position.

Virtual Vintage 54 Pro DP408W.

The Virtual Vintage 54 Pro uses the same ground breaking technology as our Area 58™ and Area 61™ pickups. The Virtual Vintage 54 Pro replaces the Virtual Vintage 54 and VirtuAL 2 middle pickups. It has a warm smoky sound fattens up when you pick hard and has a special grade of Alnico 2 magnet to reduce string pull. Like all of the Virtual Vintage models it’s dead quiet.

Recommended For All positions.

Tech Talk
The major difference between the Virtual Vintage 54 Pro and the Area 61™ is in pick attack. The Virtual Vintage 54 Pro has a fatter “woody tone and the sound almost seems to compress when picked hard. Blues players favor this type of sound for the way it fattens up solos particularly in the bridge position. It’s also good in the neck and middle positions to warm up bright-sounding guitars.

Set om 3 st. SLV single-coils.
Custom designed for Steve Lukather of Toto the SLV s are similar to our SAV pickups but for Steve we added our special touch. The windings were increased for a meatier tone and we hid away the pole pieces for a more uniform look to the instrument. Steve has always played a specially overwound SA pickup so we used the original preamp from the SA pickup with flat Alnico 5 pole pieces hidden under the cover cap. The SA preamp gives the SAV its classic EMG sound while the flat poles put the pickup closer to the strings for more output and a punchier attack.

DP110BK. FS-1™.

Some players find the traditional Strat bridge pickup sound clear and sparkling while others think it’s almost painfully bright. You know who you are and the FS-1™ is for you. It’s louder about 25% more power than a stock single-coil and smoother and fatter-sounding all-round. When you combine the FS-1™ in the bridge with True Velvet™ in themiddle and neck you’ll have a guitar with calibrated balanced tone in all five switch positions. For a bigger more aggressive sound by and large you can also install FS-1™ pickups in all three positions.

Recommended For All positions or bridge position with standard single-coils in neck and middle.

Tech Talk
We didn t design the FS-1™ with a vintage sound in mind but if you re trying to get a blues sound from the bridge position of a maple-neck Strat you ll be very happy with the extra mids and bass and the sound still cleans up when the volume is rolled down.

Pickup Strat Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues2 White

Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 DP409W.

If you’ve heard the cliché that Alnico 2 means warm soft sound prepare to be surprised. This is not a polite pickup and the closer it’s adjusted to the strings the more raw it gets. In particular the Alnico 2 magnetic field opens up all of the attack and definition of the low strings. It’s a hot pickup with a strong attack in the bridge position and its Alnico 2 magnets allow it to work very well in the neck position as well for players who want a very warm round sound. If you want an in-your-face-and-proud-of-it sound the Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 is the top pick.

Recommended For Bridge position can also be used in neck and middle.

Tech Talk
The same technology that allowed us to create the pure vintage Strat sound of the Area 58™ can also be used to design a much heavier pickup. The Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 has more mids and lows while still possessing outstanding pick attack. This also makes it an excellent pickup for the arpeggios and sweep picking classical metal players prefer because it does not become muddy even with high gain.

We originally designed it as a bridge pickup to combine with The Cruiser and Fast Track 1™ but it’s also a good neck pickup when you’ve got a hot humbucker in the bridge position.

Tech Talk
The sound of The Chopper™ is a cross between a single-coil and a full-size humbucker with more body than the single and more clarity than the HB. Pickup Strat Area 58 Black

Area 58™ DP415BK.

There are two major differences between a great vintage Strat pickup and an average one treble response and dynamics. A great pickup is clear and bright but not thin-sounding. A great one makes the sound jump out of the amp when you pick hard and drop way down when you play softly and the tone varies when the string is picked at different spots. The best pickup we’ve ever heard like this was from 1958 and that’s what inspired the Area 58™ with two major differences. Our pickup has way less magnet pull and virtually no hum.

Recommended For Neck and middle can also be used in bridge.

Tech Talk
The Area 58™ has obvious similarities to the Virtual Vintage 2.1 it replaces but there are several non-visible performance factors that have changed. Dynamic range and string definition are greatly increased leading to improvements in both clean chord-playing and overdriven soloing. The Area 58™ is very sensitive to small height adjustment differences close to the strings produces a fatter slightly compressed blues tone and further away yields crystal clean sounds. The final improvement is in noise reduction. All of the Virtual Vintage pickups have better hum cancellation than full-size humbuckers. Area 58™ and Area 61™ are even quieter.

Pickup Strat SDS-1 White

DP111W. SDS-1™ Bridge pickup.

It might look like a Strat guitar pickup but the SDS-1™ adds punch gain and warmth reminiscent of the best old soapbar pickups. The adjustable pole pieces don t pull as hard as regular rod magnets so you can get the pickup closer to the strings for stronger output. The highs are less exaggerated and the bottom is deeper than most singles for a rounder darker tone. If your guitar s bridge position sound is too edgy without the push needed to drive your amp remedy the situation with an SDS-1™. Add a pair of True Velvet™ pickups for sparkle or a True Velvet™ in the neck and an FS-1™ in the middle for balanced tone choices.

Recommended For Bridge position.

Tech Talk
The bar magnets that power the SDS-1™ are ceramic but the sound and feel are very similar to Alnico-equipped soapbars partly due to the big steel pole pieces and spacer bar. This type of magnet structure also has noticeably less magnetic pull than standard rod-magnet pickups even though the output is very high for a single-coil.

DP116BK. HS-2™-

The HS-2™ has history behind it. The HS™ series were the first humbucking Strat replacement pickups we made in the early 1980s. Since then the HS-2™ has become popular for two distinct qualities in humbucking mode it’s got a solid natural sound that’s cleaner and brighter than a conventional humbucker while single-coil mode creates one of the best vintage tones around. Because of its patented design single-coil mode is not as noisy as a standard single-coil pickup. Taken together with the dead-quiet humbucking mode this is an excellent pickup to use with rack systems and high-gain amps.

Recommended For All positions.

Tech Talk
In the classic Strat configuration the HS-2™ works in all 3 positions. It can also be part of a mixed set with the HS-3™ and HS-4™ models. The HS-2™ also works in H-S-H combinations recommended with PAF Pro FRED Air Classic™ and The Humbucker From Hell in neck and bridge positions.

DP186BK. The Cruiser Neck.

If you’re a serious traditional Strat player you probably won’t want to know about pickups with side-by-side coils. But if you’re the player who’s up for something more modern with no 60-cycle hum string drop-outs or sustain-killing magnet pull we designed The Cruiser for you. Harmonic overtones are right where you expect them to be from a “true single-coil and the mid-range is open and vocal-sounding. It’s hotter than the traditional single-coil and the bass strings have a bit more chunk this is an excellent pickup to combine with medium-output humbuckers and it maintains its tonal identity with high-gain amps and multiple effects.

Recommended For Neck position with DP187 or neck and middle with higher output bridge pickup or full-size humbucker.

Tech Talk
The obvious question about The Cruiser is “How does it compare to a single-coil sound? Our feeling is that the unwound strings “E “B and “G are very close and the wound strings “D “A and low “E are a little fatter-sounding than a true single-coil. This is really effective for getting open-sounding chords because high and low strings sound more spread out from each other. Having a total magnet pull that s about 40% less than standard single-coils also means The Cruiser can be adjusted much closer to the strings for more power than stock pickups can achieve.
